Master's in Psychiatric Nursing or School Nursing

Published

I am interested in an online program in psychistric nursing or school nursing. I am planning on applying to Stony Brook University, MU Sinclair

School of Nursing in Missouri and the University of Iowa. If anybody has any information about these programs in these schools, I would appreciate as much feedback as I can get. Please feel free to PM me if you like. If you can recommend any other good online programs, I would also appreciate it. Thanks Krisssy

Krissy... MU's program seems very doable. I did my RN-BSN there and it was a wonderful experience. They were very, very supportive. And the WebCT format is really easy to follow and learn. They have a CNS online, along with the psych NP. They do want one year of experience for the Psych NP.

I'm going into the Pediatric Nurse practitioner program this fall. They have been super easy to work with on my end. Very ready to help. And the people at the school of nursing are the best! I have meet with multiple people from the dept when going for my RN-BSN, and they were all very kind and focused on the art / science of nursing. Very enthusiasic about their work!!! If my experience with the MSN will be anything like the RN-BSN, I expect it to be very rewarding.

Go Mizzou!! :-)

p.s. in my RN - BSN program we had people from Boston Mass. and from LA, Cali! They worked with them on travel arrangements and stuff as well... like if something happened and they couldn't travel, they made other arrangements / assignments to assist them.

Dear Jeepgirl,

Thank you for all of this valuable information. I hope you don't mind answering some questions. Yes, I have found them to be very nice and very helpful always answering my questions and asking me more questions. I recently asked them if I could apply although I am not working. They wanted to know if I had my BS in nursing which I do.

Did you get your BS in nursing online? Do you believe that a psych nurse needs med surg experience first? There are so many pros and cons on this issue. What is the difference between their CNS Program in Psychiatric Nursing and their Nurse Practitioner program in Psychiatric Nursing? How much experience do you have as a peds nurse before starting the program? Are you going to go full time or part time? Will you continure to work as you take the program? Thanks for any help you can give me. Thanks Krisssy
