Boston area children's hospitals

Hello All,

I was hoping to get some input on the peds hospitals in and outside of Boston. I have PICU experience and ICU float team experience and CHOP and CHLA, possibly relocating to Boston area for husband's job. Would be living outside of the city (northwest most likely) so commuting would be a concern! Any experience with any of the facilities that have PICUs? Mass General, Floating Hospital, these facilities are new to me. I'm sure Boston Children's is great. Thanks in advance!

Boston Children's is the only true Children's Hospital in Massachusetts. There are 4 ICUs there. The NICU, the MSICU, the CICU and the MICU. This is where you will find the children requiring the most intensive care in New England. The hospitals in the other 5 New England states do not have the same pediatric intensive care capabilities and most will send their really severe cases to Boston.

Hospitals with PICUs: Mass General, Tufts (Floating Hospital for Children), I think BMC might have one- they definitely have a NICU and UMass Memorial (in Worcester).

Mass General has 2 pediatric floors separated by age, a NICU and a PICU. Tufts' "Floating Hospital for Children" isn't a free-standing children's hospital, it is part of the main Tufts hospital. Mass General and Children's are teaching hospitals for Harvard, Tufts (formerly known as NEMC) is the teaching hospital for Tufts and BMC for Boston University. Depending on how far west you are planning on living, you may be closer to Worcester. UMass Memorial has a NICU, a PICU and general pediatrics, to the best of my knowledge. If you are thinking way west, there is also BayState Children's in Springfield.

Tufts, BMC, UMass and BayState (I think) are union. MGH and BCH are not.
