Mass Bay- anyone know about their "points" system

Published

In theory MassBay doesn't have a waiting list, and instead admits competitively bases on the GPA and amount of credits obtained there. In my case I am only lacking the A and P and micro courses, so the 12 credits aren't going to add up too much, even if I do get all As. (I have a master's already, and have taken one Anatomy course with them so far.)

Any chance anyone knows what this super secret system is? For example, do you get 4 points for one course with an A, 3 points for one course with a B, etc?

thanks in advance for any insight!

I went to their info session last year, and the way it was described then was that admission was granted to students with the most MASSBAY credits -- then they looked at GPA. Credits taken at other schools don't count in their system. I believe they said that last year the cutoff was that you needed to have 15-20 MassBay credits in order to be accepted. So, students with under 15 credits needed to take more MassBay classes and hope to get in the following year.

Good luck!

i recently went to my 3rd info session at massbay (rn day). i go once a year while i'm on the waiting list (3 yrs now), just to stay up to date on the requirements. i went this past april or may ('08). the system is totally ridiculous now. the main requirement now is that you have 24 massbay credits, at minimum.

Hi Faye,

The waitlist over at Mass Bay sounds rediculious. I'm sorry you've had to wait so long. Middlesex Community College in Lowell runs a nice part time Associates degree RN program. If your considering the accellerated BSN route (like myself) there is Mass College of Pharamcy admitting for Worcester 2009, MGH School of Health Professions accellerated BSN, and also a new UMASS Boston Accellerated BSN.

All the best to you and glad you found a way out of the Mass Bay maze.

now i'm working towards getting into an accelerated program (BSN)...which is probably where i should have started to begin with. it's just going to cost more, that's all. oh well...just a heads-up for anyone who's hopeful about getting an ADN at massbay!

in regards to credits, most schools are like that. they want to see you're an actual student of theirs and giving them money. i have a great gpa, all my courses done but didnt get into the BSN program at UMB. you have to pass the intial pool and then youre application is examined.. which i got into the pool. but no admission :( which sucks cause i really want that instead of massbay. BUT they do offer the RN to BSN at umb.. and i'll get another full tuition ride hopefully!
