For all of you who just got accepted. Congrat's!

The Palm Store usually has specials on the web site. If you're planning on getting a Palm, look there. I got mine during a "spend $300, get $100 off" special.

Also- my favorite web site for books is Absolutely consider used text books, even previous editions. I bought earlier editions if they were less than $5 (many were) and had free shipping. It was a gamble, but I figured if I got into it and needed the more recent text, I could go to the bookstore and get it. Honestly, I haven't had to go buy a newer version yet. Check it out!

Good luck! Study hard! Go to class! You'll do great.

    Hi Sienna,

Do you know if you can use an ipod touch or do you need an actual Palm for the software?

I have Verizon and am eligible for a upgraded phone, but I was told you can't use a phone on patient floors so I am not sure if I should upgrade to a Palm-like phone or an iphone if I can't use it.

You can double check at orientation. I have classmates who have used the iPhone and Blackberry. Only trouble is some of the software doesn't translate the same and you're left to figure it out. Go to the SkyScape web site and peruse their compatibility FAQ's. You will be ask to get the Skyscape Nursing Constellation package. I also picked up some added features, i.e Tabors medical encyclopedia, and a couple NCLEX review programs. I LOVE those for killing time and just reviewing questions. Worth it. However, you can do the same with a book.

I also heard that you were not permitted to have the phone (more so the camera) in the hospital but everyone has taken theirs, LOTS of people have it on their phone. I think the Palm is more user friendly and it is designed for this work...however, it is another thing to carry if you normally carry your phone.

Thanks for the info, I will take a look at the Skyscape website. If you don't mind, I have another question for you that I can't seem to find an answer for.

Are nursing students required to have health insurance or purchase a certain plan? I know I should have it, but my current plan will lapse during the program and I might not be able to afford the COBRA payments. I am too old to be on my parents plan so that isn't an option. I know that when I got my first degree we had to have a certain level of coverage to be students at the school, but we were able to pay the fees with student loans since it was required.

    Thanks again!

I don't know the answer to that, except to say I am pretty sure you are required to have some coverage. I remember one of my fellow students going through a similar circumstance and was able to get on a medicaid plan. Check on that at orientation for sure!

I just received a waitlist letter from AACC Nursing. Does anyone know how many people are actually accepted once they are put on the waitlist?
  11. by wasabi37
Hey TanyaP, I am not sure how many people would be on the wait list. If I have to guess, I would say 20 people. But one thing for sure is that you should definitely go the the orientation on this coming Wednesday. Because I heard some people who were accepted but didn't show end up losing their spot since attendance is required. On the other hand, some people who were on the wait list end up getting their spot during orientation. Never hurt to try.

Btw, Thank you SiennaGreen for the encouragement and the wonderful insight on used book & palm.

Brian, you're super welcome! Come out and be a part in your Nursing Student Association!

As far as wait list, I second making sure you go to orientation. I know of several people in my class who were waitlisted and got in. Some folks get in and decide to attend elsewhere. They're also going to have a certain number of students who have to retake it from this semester, so they won't know that until after finals.
