Hi,

I'm applying to CCBC's RN program for this upcoming 2014 Spring RN Day Program, and I'm curious if any working RN's on this board would like to reply about their experiences graduating from CCBC and working as an RN. Do you feel that CCBC prepared you for the working world? How hard was it to find a job after graduating? Any tips? Good/bad experiences? Any words of advice!?

Thanks so much for your time :shy:

Hi rubyagnes,

I'm a CCBC graduate. I currently work as an RN. I recommend either working as a tech or a nurse extern/intern/student nurse while in school. I was offered a position as an RN by my hospital before graduation, as were quite a number of my classmates. My classmates who had to wait a few months before finding a position were those who were not working in those positions before graduation. I think 90% of my class had jobs within 6 months of graduation. I want to say my entire class passed the NCLEX on the first try, but I can't say for certain. (We had a pretty awesome and bright class.) I took the NCLEX two weeks after our last day of school. I didn't use anything but the Kaplan online quiz questions to study.

As for the program, I think it prepared you for the real world, as much as they could. Of course, nothing could really prepare you for the real world until you actually have your license and are taking care of an entire assignment on your own. We had a lot of skills practice and testing in the program. They emphasize prioritization in school, but I don't think you actually learn it until you're working as an RN.

I'm only one perspective, others out there will have their own opinions about what it was like. Study hard. Stay organized. Don't get too worked up if the professors are disorganized. It isn't worth the energy. Before you know it, it will all be over.

I wish you the best! Some days you may feel like chucking everything at the wall. Just don't forget that there is an end to the madness.

@ah0104 Thanks so much for your response! I truly appreciate the insight! I'm definitely doing a lot of blog browsing just to get any bits of info I can about Nursing programs, experiences, starting work as an RN, etc... It's all I think about! I'm so excited to start moving forward and can help myself from thinking about all of the hypothetical situations I may encounter. lol Thanks again!
