Maricopa ADN Prerequisites

U.S.A. Arizona

I feel silly asking this, but I have a quick question!

Do only the prerequisite courses (math, bio, A&P 201, physics) need to be completed before applying to the Maricopa Nursing traditional program waitlist? Or do the co-requisites also need to be completed before applying?

Thanks to all. I’m excited to start this journey—just trying to decide between ADN and LPN as my first step!

kind of...here is the link to it

Thanks for your reply. I just wasn’t sure whether the co-requisites need to be complete before application. The page unfortunately doesn’t make it clear...but I might be missing something! ?

Unless something has changed in the past year, yes you only have to have the prerequisites done in order to apply to get on the Maricopa traditional waitlist. It might take a few semesters of waiting to get into the program, so you can use that time to finish up your coreqs and perhaps work on prereqs for a CEP program if you want to go that route.

There may be a shorter wait for the LPN program, I'm not sure. Personally, my timeline was: I turned in my traditional application in May 2017, finished up my coreqs and prereqs for a CEP program by December, and started Block 1 in August 2018.

Good luck as you start your journey to become a nurse!

Hi -

Unless they've changed things - ONLY the pre-reqs will need to be completed before you apply for the traditional ADN. The co-reqs will need to be completed before you graduate from the ADN. Some people complete their co-reqs before they apply simply because they want everything out of the way, but it's not a requirement.

However, if you apply for the CEP, the co-reqs WILL need to be completed before you can apply. This is for several reasons. One is that the co-reqs for Maricopa are often pre or co reqs for the university, so you can't get a place on the university part of the degree until they're done. Secondly, you simply wouldn't have enough time to take the co-reqs on top of the ADN on top of your University classes.
