heeelllloooo!!! merry christmas everyone
i just have a question regarding how many clinical hours you received in each rotation during peds, maternity and psych in nursing school? the reason i'm asking is because a colleague of mine got her visascreen denied (as posted on a previous thread) because she didn't have the required number of clinical hours in specific nursing areas....
i remember completing around 96 hours each in peds and maternity...but i never did any rotations in psych nursing (i had a choice between doing psych or community, and i choose community).....i wonder if that will work against my approval for a work visa when CGFNS assesses my professional education? :uhoh21:
thanks for your responses and input!!!!

You must have approved hours in mental health for CGFNS. What type of community service did you put your hours in? That could be a factor.
i completed my first community rotation at a rehab facility (tertiary care) ....when i went on to finish my BSN, i did 2 full semesters of community health nursing also....i think this will put me in a rough situation with CGFNS.....i have absolutely no experience in pysc, and only a few topics were "touched" upon when we had theory courses.....schizophrenia, depression and bipolar were a few topics that were presented during class presentations by our peers...there were no psyc classes that we needed to take during nursing school.....but, i did complete a level one psychology class as a prerequisite before i entered nursing....would this count?
Chances are no, but it is up to CGFNS to make the decision. That is why I tell everyone to just submit their documents to them, they are the only ones that can make the determination for you.
If they do not accept your transcripts, it is something quite easy that can be made up. I wouldn't worry about it too much.
Which city are you in?
hey suzanne,
i live in vancouver, British Columbia, Canada :chuckle
what do you mean when you said:
how would be able to do that?

You can always go down to the US as a guest student to one of the neighboring states and make up the necessary time. Quite easy to do in the US.
hrmm....then would i need a student visa and enroll in classes? if so, i could probably save myself $$$ and extra international costs by making it up in my city....the thing that frustrates me most is that i've already graduated from an accredited universary with a BSN...and it's just extra work to have to make up for "lost hours".....:angryfire
i just gotta pray and hope to pass the the radar with CGFNS :uhoh21:

It will also come down to how your school fills out the paperwork and how they list your hours. Did your community health include any mental health areas?
Please let me know how things work out for you...........

Suzanne4, 2 questions for ya :)
I was wondering what are these courses called/what would I have to ask for if I were to inquire about enrolling to meet the clin/theory requirements.
I'm going to be graduating next year from a school in Toronto that does not have us do the usual rotations in Labour/Delivery, Psych, Peds. so I am scared I will probably run into problems with the visascreen too.
I tried looking at some schools across the U.S. for more information on what you said above (Loyola, University of Michigan etc.) but came up with nothing.
Can you suggest any schools in Michigan, Illinois, California, Texas, New York/Jersey that offer these courses on an individualized need basis?
Many many thanks in advance!!!
Anxious in Toronto,
Vee
