Mandatory Overtime

Our PCU department is scheduling mandatory overtime, the good thing is they only have 4 pts. and always have a tech, but they have families. Can they legally do this, they are being scheduled 60-72 hours per week (12 H shifts)? Med Surg has been working short as well and we have to supply the hospital w/staff when they are short the we end up with 9 pts. and no tech. Oh we do get a $20 gift card for apparel. HA HA ! I do not know why they will not pay agency instead of killing their employees. Any help or comments will be appreciated.

I don't know about the legality, but all hospitals do when they do this is cause higher turnover rates and increase the overall problem with staffing.
