Male nurses who cook

Nurses Men

I suppose you're wondering why I've asked you all here. Table saws, scratching, sports all aside, I am wondering if there is any interest in the fine culinary arts. Particularly those peculiar to the bachelor.

I once lived on a case of Waverly Wafers, a Restaurant sized container of soy based imitation bacon bits (less than 1/2 of 1% sodium benzoate added as preservitive) a jar of peanut butter and a dozen eggs for nearly 2 weeks. I bought the eggs and white label peanut butter, and the other contributed by a friend. Endless variations...eggs ala Waverly, Bacon, egg and peanut butter on Waverly, you imagine.

Being half 'White trash' I expanded my horizons over time as the money started coming in. My quest is twofold....

1) What do you consider some of your dubious culinary triumphs?

2.) How can we get the Food Channel to sponsor a 'Male nurse cooks with Rachael Ray' contest? After all, "Chef" has been a male dominated profession, and "Nursing" a female dominated field for all these years. Perhaps the twain shall meet. Or better yet, an 'eating on a dollar 30 cents a day' episode. Leftovers are fair game. Imagine Rachael relishing a curled hunk of cold pizza fresh out of the box in the fridge with the orange congealed grease on the top, washed down with a warm Coke, or half a can of flat beer from last night.

Give me your feedback.

If you can hook me up to do a cooking show with Rachael Ray, I'm in!

I love to cook. My mom raised very independent boys. I make a mean homemade spaghetti meat sauce. I just need to find someone to do my dishes, I hate that part of it.

Who wouldnt be? She is my celebrity sweetheart!!! I can cook for real, but I also have a bunch of recipes for using with Army MRE's. Did you know how to make a "Ranger Cookie"? Cocoa, cream(powdered of course) and sugar, placed on any heat source for a while and then cooled. Actually tastes OK.

Or Ramen mixed with any MRE main meal.

Actually, that was one of my choices before Nursing came along. I was set on either News/Journalism, or opening a restaurant. The Nursing thing came up when I started working in the Dietary part of the Nursing home. Other than that, I love to cook in my freetime (which there isn't much of anymore). Food is awesome. I'm living with my mom during Nursing school, and she can't cook. My dad's cooked for me all my life, so that's part of where that came from.

I love this thread!

I had an herb garden right outside my kitchen door....snip snip...and there were chives, cilantro, garlic, dill, basil, oregano, cat nip mint, creeping rosemary, chocolate mint.

I raised two boys on my own...and part of their 'training' for self sufficiency was that they had to learn to prepare a whole five course meal with all the bells and whistles and clean up after before they left home...

My older son makes a great flan....it's just yummy....he also bakes cheesecakes, pies, and makes wonderful mexican foods...

my younger son is the chef...hands down...

He makes beef burgundy, pasta alfredo and makes the alfredo himself, and makes this chocolate bombe cake that is nearly orgasmic!

I love it when guys cook....and my daughter in law says that is one of the things that attracted her to my oldest son....so, for the single guys...this is definitely a babe catching device!

A man with tools...whether kitchen or household is always a good thing, as Martha would say.

I think I will go make some choc. chip cookies now...

NurseMike,

I've been reading your comments, and you're cracking me up. lol

I am applying to nursing school in Texas. I hope to find out in a few weeks.

Oh, and I forgot to mention. I love to cook! Nothing relieves stress like lighting a fire and chopping things with a knife.
