well... i love my job BUT....I raised my hand to participate. ..not run....a unit committee. The committee is a hospital requirement that requires
me to attend 4 hours of meetings, give 1 meeting, take 3 8 hr classes, and TONS of paperwork each month. Since no one else participated, I've become the person to do it all. I'm humiliated and angry cause I've done all this work and 0 people came to my meeting! ZERO!
The benefit for me is the Directors and Managers see the work I've put in....and hopefully recognize that when I try to advanace. in the meantime, I'm miserable and I don't have time for this. And I don't want to be a quitter or failure (ZERO!)
.
The hospital even holds a class on how to get people to come to these meetings!! that is how bad participation is. So I guess i'm supposed to pull a rabbit out a hat....
end of vent

It sounds like a big waste of precious time to me. But management types are big on meetings. Then they need to create new management positions to assist them in getting the work done because they were tied up in meetings and couldn't finish their work. Of course there was a meeting called to discuss that problem!
I'm part time, so I work 2 days a week...I have to work extra and come in on off days to make it happen. boooo

Are they paying you for your time? If not, that stinks. But if they are, it might be worth the investment of your time to get the experience. As you seem to realize, this experience may help you advance your career. In addition, if you make the most of it, you may learn things that will help you in the future. At minimum, you are learning how difficult it is to get staff members to engage in certain types of activities -- and that nursing managers and educators have to work very hard to accomplish much. Those jobs are not as cushy as some people think they are.
i am payed but it's a waste. drive up there clock in and no one shows...so I get paid for like 45 mins....and I squeeze stuff into my normal work day to avoid having to come extra. It's especially hard hard to to get participants cause I'm not in a leadership position and it's not mandatory. I was thinking of making the meeting a monthly newsletter instead. Not sure if that makes me a failure...but it would sure save me wasted time
