Making a difference

I just wanted to share that I had an awesome clinical experience this week.

This is our first quarter to do clinicals. Finally, I am making some connections to all the book work we have done for several months!

My patient this week was a darling 92-y.o. lady. She was not doing well, but I feel I made a difference by just being there for her. My instructor told me to stay in her room, as she was not doing well. As far as "skills", I took vitals, took blood, urine test from a Foley, hung an IV med, flushed the IV, gave oral meds, gave my first bed bath and alerted the nurse when her sats went too low.

I also held her hand and tried to make her comfortable. I know I gave her the best care I knew how, and that her nurse couldn't have spared the time to be in her room all day. I can't imagine how nurses deal with many needy and critical patients, when I had my hands full with one.

My patient gave me so much more than I gave her.

Thanks for letting me share!:redpinkhe
