Made a job offer and then nothing.....

I had been through this really long hiring process at a local hospital almost 2 months. Finally, yesterday the recruiter called me on my cell phone and offered me the job. However, I wasn't there to answer when she called (around 5pm). So I called her back around 7pm and said that I would take the job. This morning, I waited frantically by the phone, hoping she would call me back and let me know what I do next. But nothing happened. So around noon, I left her another message. It's almost the end of the day, and she still hasn't called....The thing is the day before she called me I got a generic email saying that they picked someone else for the position I applied. So I was all upset and everything because I thought the interview went really well. But then when I got her voicemail I was soooo happy. I now start to wonder if they made a mistake and called the wrong person to offer the job.Could it happen? If it did happen, that would be a really cruel mistake. I really want to work there. I didn't do anything today because I was waiting for her to call. What should I do?

i would continue to try and contact her. i would want to make certain of what was going on.
