Well, another year means another time for more score updates. I am getting ready to take my HESI in a couple weeks to apply for the 2012 Nursing Program and I must say I am really beginning to get nervous! Thanks to their recent addition of HHSC-1040 (right before I was apply ) I am just curious how everyone did, and what was it like this year? I have no clue what to expect and I have been searching forever. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am really not worried about the Math or Grammar sections. I'm more worried about the Vocabulary, Reading, and A&P section that they added. Any advice would be great. I already have the Evolve HESI book that I have been reviewing from for the past couple of months. I'm still just really nervous.
I don't have a HESI score yet, but my GPA to apply for the program is: 3.925.
Again, any advice would be grand!
Thank you!! and do you know if the alternates get a spot before orientation how will we be notified?Sorry I am obsessing I know
You are not obsessing at all! I know exactly how all of you are feeling. From what I know from the past, the alternates get a phone call when spots become available.
In 2009, my daughter (that was just accepted) convinced me to go back to school and together we took our prereqs. I ended up being accepted and she did not Last year my daughter reapplied and was an alternate - she made it all the way towards the top of the list when March classes started and did not get a spot. This is her lucky year - the third time was the charm for her.
If I can answer any questions, I am happy to do so as I know how intense and overwhelming everything is.
Hi zhockeymom77,It's so great that you are doing well in the program and congrats to your daughter! I was wondering if you have any idea of how much all the up front costs are, or even an estimate, the semester we start?
Thanks in advance.
I can give you an idea of costs (ballpark from what I remember)
TB and flu shot - around $30 at Health Dept.
Titers - $125 at St. Clair Health Dept. - if your insurance covers this, the cost may be less
Physical - $50
Drug Screen - $50 - Concerta
BLS Certification - $50? Red Cross
ACE Passport (online modules) - $50
Plus any vaccinations you may need
Scrubs from bookstore - $40- $50 set (good to purchase 2 sets) - these may also be purchased used from the practice lab if available
White shoes - your choice of which type as long as they have backs and are all white
Lab coat - in my opinion don't waste your money - I have not worn mine one time
Stethoscope - a good Littman Classic from Life Uniform is around $70-80
Lab pack from bookstore - I think they are charging around $100
Books for the entire program (if you purchase all required and recommended) around $1500 +
Tuition - you have 4.5 credits your first and second 8 weeks and then 5.5 credits every 8 weeks thereafter until your final 8 weeks which is 6 credits.
Clinical/Labs - each have a fee which I believe may be $100 per
Again, these are just guestimates from what I can remember - hope this helps :)

OrSa - Don't give up if this is truly what your heart wants. You could always have backups that could eventually lead you to where you want to go. Believe me I was in you position last year so I went into the EMT program and loved it and it also gave me more experience but you may want to try a different approach just keep your head up.
