MA to Dialysis Tech?

Hi all,

I need some help deciding if it is worth it to pursue Dialysis tech training with Fresenius as a current certified MA. I've been with the same company for 7 years, and have been an MA for 5 of them. I want to expand my knowledge and experience, but there aren't many opportunities to do so in my current position. Frankly, as long as you are curious and open to learning, there is always something new to be learned in the family practice/walk-in setting I'm in now, but it does not offer much in the way of specialized skills like hemodialysis tech does.
I'm looking for guidance on whether this is a path worth pursuing, or if I should continue in my current position as an MA.

my pros to pursuing dialysis tech:

-paid training that allows me to sit for CCHT exam and chance to add additional certification to my resume/apps

-the clinic I'd work at is only open three days a week so that is three days a week of work, and to me, that is a pro when I'm still grinding out pre-reqs.

-specialized experience with a new patient population and new company

my cons for pursuing dialysis tech:

-entry level (non-certified) training entails a pay cut of at least $3-4 dollars per hour from what I make now.
-the unknowns (will I be a good fit for the job? Will I be a good fit at the clinic? Will I regret leaving my long term job where I know everyone and know what I'm doing?)

-stress of learning a new trade on top of performing extremely well in pre-reqs/ burnout potential

Any thoughts on this are appreciated!!
