I have been working acute care for the past 4.5 years (RN 1.5 yrs, LPN 3 yrs), did 8 months as an LPN charge nurse at an LTC facility, and a year a as CNA at LTC.

Working 12 hour nights for the last 4.5 years is wearing me down...especially when I think of having children in the future. I really want a dayshift Monday-Friday type job. I'm interested in clinical informatics but I fear it will be really hard to get my foot in the door with no experience. Basically my question is what type of dayshift M-F Nursing Jobs exist? I really can't afford to take a pay cut from my night floor nursing position.

home health, outpatient centers and doctors' offices all are 9-5.

You will most likely NOT find a M-F 9-5 job in a hospital unless you're prepared to move away from the floor and go into management. Also, you unfortunately may have to take a pay cut in order to get the hours you desire, as working nights/weekends often pays higher rates than working straight days. IMO, you may need to look at your priorities and decide what is more important right now: the hours or the income. Because what you are asking for is a tough order to fill.

In addition to the suggestions above, you can also look at school nursing.

Also, if benefits aren't important to you, you could go the per diem route and pick up PRN jobs at one or more facilities. By doing that you may be able to scrape up enough day shifts and keep your salary close to what you're making. However, you run the risk of not getting hours as per diem jobs don't guarantee you any. Again, you need to decide what's most important to you right now.

Oh I guess I didn't say that ...I want to get away from floor nursing. It sucks the life out of me. I'm wondering what supervisor at a nursing home or dialysis nurse would make. I really love the geriatric population. Then I'm wondering what nurses do in insurance companies. I know clinic and school nursing is not for me.

Maybe an adult day care center or home care as another person said.
