LVN or straight to RN?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

im sure this question has been addressed a lot of times already. anyway, im new here! and i find this site very useful. im in my 2nd year of prereqs for the rn program, almost done!

i was just wondering if it was a good idea if i went for the LVN now and then go back to school to get my RN. The wait here in Cali, and everywhere for that matter, is sooo long. It's almost close to impossible to get in and I wish i was just overreacting but I'm really not.

Would it be easier for me if i go for my LVN now? Or do you think it's a waste of time? Money? Effort? Pls help. thank you!

I'm going for LPN then bridging to RN. The waiting list here seems to be very long unless you have a 4.0 (which I do not). Also, the hospitals around here hire LPNs, so my hope is to get a hospital job as an LPN then get the hospital to pay for my RN (most hospitals offer tuition reimbursement). Besides, I will probably be finished sooner than if I had chosen straight to RN (because of the waiting list).

I also chose to go this route because I have a husbandnad a mortgage. I need to be working again ASAP, and doing the LPN, then RN bridge will provide me with that oppourtunity.

If you think that LPN is the way to go for you, then do it. I would look into the job oppourtunities for LPN in your area, just ot make sure you'll be able to find work.
