Does anyone have a feeling for what the salary is for a new RN after 12 yr. as LVN in LTC, all in austin? I would like to get away from LTC but not real interested in hospital work (unless it pays really well!) I think my niche is Hospice but don't feel comfortable with going to school and then making less money, my family is a consideration. Was making $23+ hr working prn as an LVN. Is it unresonable to think I will make more as an RN with benefits? Am willing to start lower and work up but hoping with experience it will be faster. I'm working on clinicals now, won't graduate 'till next year.Would appreciate any input, be honest please!!!;)

New grad RN's make about 18-20/hr base (+night/we diffs) starting out at either major network in town. I don't know what so much experience as an LVN will get you, if anything. It's certainly a selling point for you though, so don't sell yourself short! Just be aware that they do have pay scales to work within (everyone in my graduating class is making the same rate, regardless of tech/ems/whatever experience - don't know about LVN experience though). I would think, but really have no idea, that you could come in as an RN2+ rather than "brand new nurse" rank with the experience you already have.

Good luck to you!
