LVN program while completing RN prereqs

Published

Hello everyone!

I'm enrolled in a private LVN program that begins in January 2014 which I should complete in 13 months. I have 4 RN prerequisite classes left to complete before I will be eligible to apply for RN programs in my area. My LVN classes are during the day so I was planning on taking the RN prerequisites during the evening over the spring/fall semesters.

I'd like to apply for RN programs next year December and I just wanted to know if other people have done the same route. I know it won't be easy but I just want to get the prereqs out of the way so I can get my career going.

Thank you!

First of all congrats on your decision to enroll in nursing school! I am in an LPN program now that is the same length as the one you will be attending and i have to tell you it is very very intensive. We have no time off and everything is so fast paced that i could not imagine going to school for anything else at the same time. I have trouble balancing a job and still having time for my kid while keeping my grades up. I dont want to discourage you, just wanted to give you something to think about. Good luck with any decision you make :-)

Where do u live? and i agree ^^^ its easy to take these pre reqs now that u havent started the lvn program but once you start its gonna be mega hard with time to READ READ READ and clinicals also depends on how many classes u have per qtr. goodluck i wouldnt be able to do it. i plan on doing my pre reqs online as soon as i take the nclex in May.

Thank you for helping me out, I really appreciate it :) I live in Northern California (San Francisco Bay Area). You guys are right so I've decided to finish the rest of my prerequisites after I complete the LVN program. I have a soon to be 2-year old plus a husband and I have no idea what I was thinking adding more to my plate lol! Whew! Thanks again!!
