LVN/LPN- RN PROGRAM

Published

I'm having trouble figuring out what I need to do to become a LVN/LPN transferring to an RN. I'm going to city college and taking nursing classes. For the nursing classes, are there specific classes for CNA, LVN and RN programs? I'm in a CNA class almost graduating from it, and after I take my CNA exam and pass it, do i go to college and take CNA courses again? I want to be an RN but I don't know if I need a degree after two years of college, or four years?

no you dont take CNA classes so to speak but if you are going for your RN you will need to take prereqs to get into the nursing program. in the beginning of the nursing program (for lvn) the first level is learning your skills basically CNA skills, bed baths, tying a knot, transferring patients from bed to w/c, w/c to bed, etc. I know after passing the first level you are able to take a CNA exam and continue with the lvn course. a couple classmates of mine did and didnt have to take the actual CNA class offered at some colleges. i dont know about any RN programs, haven't gotten that far yet. im hoping to get in this fall

oh and if you are going for your RN you can either go to a CC for two years and get your ADN or go to a univeristy for 4 years and get your BSN.
