When you work in LTC as an LVN (at least, in my experience), there is an RN on duty also. You can always go to the RN for help, or to ask questions. My first job was in LTC, and while I didn't like the job, I was very relieved to have the RN nearby.

Good luck, you can do it!

If I'm correct, this is not your first job. You've worked in a nursing home as recently as last month, but I am assuming that you are no longer employed there for some reason.

You can care for patients on a one-on-one basis in private duty, but many of these jobs require clinical floor nursing experience and the ability for you to work alone. There are reasons for this, since many private duty patients are medically fragile, on vents, and require thorough assessment and quick decisions.

If you secured employment in a prison or jail, you would probably have another nurse in the building for questions. Many public health clinics also have RNs that you could possibly use as a resource. However, you are going to eventually need to become comfortable with making some decisions and judgments regarding patient care, because another nurse cannot always take you by the hand and guide you at every moment. Good luck to you!
