LVN getting forensic nursing certificate

Nurses LPN/LVN

Published

Hi Everyone :)

Im new to this forum and would love any feedback on the matter. I have my LVN license and have a strong passion for forensics. I have been tossing some ideas around for what career path to choose. In the meantime I have been working on getting my bachelors in Sociology with a minor in criminal justice, while working as an LVN. Hoping long term apply to law school and move into criminal law. I still have about 2 years or longer for my Bachelors, since I am only able to go to school part time. I have been wondering if it would not only be interesting, but worth trying to get the Forensic Nursing Certificate through University of Riverside extension program in the mean time. I know they allow LVN's not just RN's to take this program. Any thoughts? Has anyone taken this program and found it beneficial to add to your LVN and resume. I have found many post on RN's but not much feedback from a LVN's perspective. :) would be greatly appreciated!

Wow, this is interesting. I have only known of forensic nurse practioners. I am not sure what an LVN would do with this certification. As an RN, you could be a SANE nurse, but that is only for RN's and not LVN's. I would see what it is you could do with this certificate before I would spend the time taking it. If nothing else, a good continuing ed for your LVN license renewal...

Hi Jadelpn I appreciate your feedback. I thought since the program is the same whether you were an RN or LVN it might be worth having. I understand what you are saying though and your right, RN's have the option/flexability to really pursue that field further then an LVN. In the event that I decided to go back for my RN, I already have that certificate. I guess thats a positive and maybe somewhere I can get a job within correctionals that does not require me to be an RN. :) I guess thats the beauty of having options, huh? lol

Just be careful of some of the certificate programs. What you may or may not need to keep them current may or may not be within your scope at present.

Some are not worth the time and money.

Sounds pretty cool, though!

That's great advice, I will definitely look into that.

Thanks again
