I heard that if you go to a private school for LVN
and later decide to become a RN that the credits aren't transferable.
Is there anyway for people who attended private schools to have that
LVN-RN or do they have to go over with schooling?
I read many threads that new LVN's can't get jobs, and I'm scared
and unsure what to do.
I'm 19 with a baby and what is your advice for me
as for schooling?
Just wondering. I'm so confused.
I noticed many LVN's in the long run want to become RN's...
So... any advice would be GREATLY APPRECIATED.
I just don't want to be stuck in the long run.
Should I just go to Community college?

What is your goal? Do you want to become an RN?
I was a single parent at 20 so I understand the position you're in. Now my kids are grown.
As a single parent you have to consider who's going to watch your child while you're working nights and weekends as an LPN or RN. Also who's going to watch the child if he/she is sick and you can't miss school or clinicals.
If I had to do it over again I wouldn't do LPN. I would have stuck out the waiting list for RN and got a job as a PCT at a hospital.
Have you considered doing Medical Assistant? At least with this training you can work in a doctor's office and have a day schedule and weekends off.

I really think that's a personal decision and the answer will be different for everyone depending on their personal circumstances and their ultimate career goals. For me this won't be my first career and I'm older than you but single and without kids. It was beginning frustrating waiting to get into some of the needed pre-reqs classes. A lot of people don't realize that yes the waiting list for a ADN may only be 3-6 yrs but it may take you awhile to get into the pre-req classes. It took me 3 terms to get into medical terminology.
My personal plan is to become an LVN at a private school. Once I graduate to work as an LVN. Yes, some areas of California hospitals are not hiring for LVNs. But if you check craigslist and monster, that doesn't pertain to the areas near me and there are always other settings for an LVN to work at. While I'm working I'll finish up on my pre-reqs and once that's done I'll apply for an LVN-RN bridge program as well as some physician assistant programs. A lot of new grad RNs are having problems getting a job without experience but being an LVN first will give me that experience. Not to mention working directly with patients for a year is a requirement for a lot of PA programs and I can't afford to work as a CNA for that long.

Private LVN programs are a lot more expensive than JC's, if the programs arent accredited, the classes wont transfer. Private loans, mostly acquired through private progams ARENT DISCARGABLE THRU BANKRUPCY.
