LTC, Hospital, Clinic or Other? Where Would You Rather Work?...

Published

Specializes in Clinical Documentation Specialist, LTC.

Assuming you have a choice and can go in any direction you want within your scope of practice.

I'm a LPN with almost 17 years experience and all of that experience has been in LTC with most of it as a MDS Nurse. For the past several years I have become very dissatisfied with LTC and quite depressed, so I decided to step out of my comfort zone and go in a completely different direction. Kind of like walking to the edge of a cliff, closing your eyes and stepping out on faith.

Anyway, I saw an ad online for a Safety Director in a Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy/Wound Clinic so I applied, not expecting anything to come of it.

A couple of weeks later I had a phone interview, then a couple weeks later a face to face interview, and three days later a job offer. After going through two background checks, two drug screens and fingerprinting, I am now employed as the Wound Clinic's new Safety Director/LPN Wound Care Nurse.

Hours are Mon-Fri. 8am-4:30pm with no holidays, and there are days we get to leave early when things are slow, so that's a bonus.

I had to leave LTC for my own sanity. I dearly loved working with the residents and showing them there are people who care, but the politics, drama, and chaos finally beat me down.

Will I ever go back? I don't know, but right now I have no intention of returning to LTC unless I have no other choice. I honestly never thought I would feel that way :(

Edited to add: The company I am working for offers extermely intensive training to it's new employees and there is great opportunity for advancement. I did my research ;)
