Hello all
I am a newly commissioned 2LT in the army and I will be going active duty. I just found out I am going to Germany to work at Landstuhl. I was wondering if anyone has experience over there and could give me some tips and advice. Also, where are good places to live. Any information is appreciated.
Thanks!

Heather, you will love it! They should hook you up with a sponsor who can help you with logistical details. When do you go to BOLC? I grew up at Ramstein (right near Landstuhl), it was a fabulous experience. I hope you are able to take advantage of the travel and cultural opportunities. I went to BOLC in 2011 and a couple of my classmates went to Landstuhl as new nurses and 2LTs and had a wonderful experience.

Congrats on such a sweet assignment! I was stationed just down the road in Miesau army depot for 3 years. It's green and beautiful there. It's very heavily populated with Americans in that area so it can feel less foreign.
There is a website AHRN.com that can help with looking at available housing. Of course, don't commit to anything until you get there, but it's nice to know what you are in for.
You'll get a sponsor who will help you out as you make your move. Loads of people have done this. It may seem overwhelming and crazy, just know it'll all work out.

That is pretty much a dream job, right out of the gate...enjoy every second, since you might end up in Kansas next.
If that were my PCS, I would almost never be home...between MWR trips, driving the Nurburgring and all the famous tracks in Northern Europe, and Oktoberfest.
You have access to buy BMWs at insane discounts while you are stationed overseas...and since the Army will ship it back for you when you PCS home. Something to consider.
