Lpn's in the USA

Hi there,i'm really curious and a little worried at the moment. After reading some threads,i am getting the feeling that lpn's are not being employed much in the US,especially foreign ones.I am a malaysian but a permanent resident in singapore.I have been an male Enrolled nurse or lpn equivalent for 5 years now in a general medicine and cardio ward.I work in Tan tock seng hospital, where the SARS outbreak was first discovered and contained.I am very keen to go to the states to work as a nurse along with my RN wife. She is a philipino, holds a BSN and RN so immigration for her shouldnt be a problem. So my question is even if i were to take up ielts and lpn nclex, there's very little chance for me to be employed in the states, let alone given the green card? Please advise, thanks a million.:redbeathe

Hi and welcome to the site

If your wife is the principle applicant for the US (you will also get GC) then there is no reason as long as you meet requirements on doing PN and taking NCLEX PN but each state has different rules and requirements and PN's do not always work in hospitals. In some states you will only see them in the community or long term facilities.

Also with retrogression you are looking at a few years for a visa as the demand is high especially as your wife is from the Philippines as it is done on birth place not where you are a resident.

in that case i'll just continue studying for my lpn nclex then apply and wait and see.I love nursing but nursing is singapore is simply not my cup of tea,and the pay is simply peanuts. Thanks again!

Not sure if they have Bridging programs from PN to RN but maybe something to think about whilst waiting.

There is no such program in singapore and if i wish to pursue the RN diploma,i'll have to resign and self sponsor myself for the 3 year diploma.Something which i cannot afford to do,so working in a foreign country is the only means for me to upgrade myself and bring back a better pay.I would even go as far as working something lower than a Lpn and work myself up from there.I believe nothing can be worse than what i'm doing here.
