wondering if anyone who is currently working for the VA can shed some light on job openings (LPN)
at the VA. Yes, I have looked on usajobs. I see a lot of ads, but wonder sometimes how many openings are
REALLY there.
I have heard the hiring process can take up to a year. Just wondering if anyone can shed some light on this .
Thanks in advance ! pat

It really depends on location. At the West Los Angeles VA there hasn't been an opening in 6 months. Also on the announcement if the posting is open for a year, it will take a while to hear from HR if at all. You'd have a better shot of hearing from them in a reasonable time if the posting is only open for 2 weeks or so.
But either way it is true, sometimes it can take 6-12 months to get hired, but for others I've heard it taking 1-2 months. Also at the West Los Angeles VA there are rumors that LVNs will not be hired in acute care beginning next year, so maybe clinics and long term are the only areas which will continue to hire LVNs. I haven't seen a posting for an LVN in acute care in 2 years..
If you apply, try continue to call about the status, show up and talk to nurse recruitment so they see your face and know you really want the position. But in the meantime keep your current job, it can take a long time to get an email/call/snail mail..
thanks for answering! I did not think anyone would.
