LPN wanting to working in Ob/gyn

Published

I am feeling so lost. The past year I've been a stay at home mom. Before I was a stay at home mom I was working in long term care. It absolutely ruined my nursing passion and I will never return. I am very very passionate about women's health. I know as a lpn it is near impossible to find a position in labor and delivery. Are any of you LPNs that have a job working a labor and delivery? Do you work under a different title? I just really don't think I can be passionate about anything else. I am also a doula but I am unfortunately not finding work here in Orlando it is over saturated. Please send advice this way. Thank you !

I don't think it's legally possible to work as an LPN in L&D. What about a ob/gyn Dr's office? That would be a possibility. We have some lpn's that work mother/baby at our hospital while working on their RN.

Specializes in Rehab/LTC.

In my area LPN's can work in postpartum if they can find a hospital that's still willing to hire an LPN. Some hospitals in some states will hire LPN's to work in the OR for c-sections with assisting the anesthesiologists (basically anesthesia support-this is the one of the only few LPN jobs offered at my local hospital)

I second and OB/GYN office or a perinatology office. Some health departments hire LPN's and they have the chance to work closely with pregnant women and their babies.

Due to the limited scope of practice in many states, there isn't much need for an LPN in L&D.
