LPN Vs. LVN

Nurses LPN/LVN

Published

 Maybe you guys have already answered this, but I am new to the board and my recent search on here didn't find it. At the college here they have CNA, LVN and RN. I am not sure sure which I should choose, LVN or RN. Is LPN the same as LVN. I tried looking up LVN at monster.com's salary calculator all I can find is LPN. ~Nikki

This is an addition to my first post. I wanted to add to it. All of you LPN's or LVN's, what do you recommend? If you had it to do all over again, would you be a RN instead? ~Nikki

Yes they're the same thing. It's just in different states they are called different things. I am in Ohio and it is Licensed Practical Nurse. I know in California it is Licensed Vocational Nurse.

Okay thanks. That makes sense. I'm in California. ~Nikki

Go for the RN. I was an LPN for several years before I was able to go back to school to do a bridge program. You can do more with less limitations as an RN and the pay is usually better. If you can do the RN, I suggest it. If you need to start working sooner, doing the LPN is great because you can work as an LPN while doing a bridge to RN program.
