Lpn Student Seeking Wisdom

Published

Hey guys!

I will be starting the LPN program Sept 2006 at Orlando Tech. I'm a nervous wreck! I will be taking the program full-time (it's a 52-week program) and also working at a clinic (doing administrative work not clinical) also full-time. I was wondering if any of you have any words of wisdom! What can I expect out of the program? How did you survive the boards? What is the starting salary for an LPN newly graduated? I intend on staying in Orlando after I graduate so that I can do the transtion program at Valencia. ALSO, if anyone out there is an ORL TECh alum, if you guys can help me out by letting me know what books I'll need? Again, any soothing advice and sound wisdom will help!

Hi there!

As a former Orlando Tech student, I can probably give you some suggestions. First and foremost, do not buy any books. Orlando Tech changes textbooks frequently. You will receive a list of textbooks during orientation. Seriously, do not buy ahead of schedule. Many students in my class loss cash by buying the wrong books.

This program will require flexibility and patience. Trust me! I've sent you a PM, btw.

Hi and CONGRATS for you!! I was very nervous while attending nursing school too, so I know right where you are coming from. I had some wonderful instructors and great friends who really helped me.

I have been an LPN for 4 years now and I love it! It will take some hard work and dedication. You need to have study groups an use flash cards, they really help. I am actually from Ohio but have lived in Florida as well. I had a place close to the beach around Melbourne, about an hour past Daytona Beach. I love it in Florida and may try to move back in the fall.

Hope this helps you somewhat.........Take Care

Thanks! Did you see much difference from being an LPN in Ohio than in Florida?

i am moving to orlando around august 15 or so and i hope to start lpn school at orlando tech with the part time program. do you know what the start times are for each part-time session? i can't wait. also, any idea how much out of state tuition will be? i know that in state said it was $3,800 according to orlando tech website.:heartbeat

Salary for a LPN in Florida??? I am in Connecticut - we have always wanted to move to FLorida-either Orlando area or Naples.....Lpn here make about 20-26 per hour so just wondering what the difference is. Thanks!!!

bethinct..if going to naples look up www.nchmd.org. It is the website for naples community hosp and under careers they post the salary offered. Florida doesnt pay well RN's or LPN. Naples does have a seasonal program for nurses.. pay is much better and they have their own housing they can provide. Not sure if they hire LPN's under seasonal program . Also a new hospital being built here Collier regional owned by HCM . Also physicians Regional Medical Center(formerly cleveland clinic) and now owned by HCM also.

Graduated from Sarasota Tech 2005.

Best advice:

Buy the NCLEX PN now & use it as a supplemental study guide to your textbook assignments.

I really advise this as it prepares you for the testing format in advance.

Plus at our PN school we had to take the NLN tests as a both a precurser to the NCLEX PN ,& as a way to judge how Sarasota Tech's PN program's instructional level prepared its' students.

Good luck!
