LPN student needs help w/ resume

Published

Hi,

Can someone guide me as what to put on a resume. I'll be finishing w/ school this June & want to start writing my resume. I don't have any experience in the health field & not sure if I can put my clincal rotation on my resume. What else do I need to put on my resume since my previous job is not in the health field.

Any resume sample will be helpful.:)

Specializes in Geriatrics, pediatrics.

I'm also graduating in June and had to make a resume for a class. Here's what was suggested:

  • Emphasize your clinical experience by starting your resume with a section titled "Clinical Rotations." List the name of each health care facility where you did your major rotations. It's not necessary to give much detail about each position or to provide dates and time frames other than the year. You can mention other significant experiences you've had, such as working with ventilators, trach care, chesttube, etc..
  • Include professional non-nursing work experience. Valuable skills include budgeting, writing, selling, office management..
  • School-related activities: leadership roles, professional associations, honor roll. Don't forget about CPR!
  • Volunteer work: homeless shelter, blood bank, etc, include details if it was extensive.
  • Use action verbs, use bulleting, use good bond paper, spell check, and include a cover letter.

(Hope this helps)

Congrats on your impending graduation. I hope we both get great new jobs!:heartbeat :nurse::nurse::heartbeat

Hello,

I used a few websites to help with mine:

http://www.resume-resource.com/exmed2.html

http://www.resume-help.org/registered_nurse_resume_example.htm

And my personal favorite:

http://www.creatingprints.com/student-nurse.html

You can look through several resumes on creatingprints.com, I just went through the samples and used them as a format more or less, and incorporated my own profile into my resume. I just graduated in February and our last week of school we had an assignment to create a resume that the head of the program would review. Mine turned out well with the help of the websites  Good luck to you!!

Thanks for your help.:specs:

Good luck!!!

I echo 3sodapop, use a bulleted list and don't forget your cpr and any training that would make you a good lpn. For example, it could be you took a conflict management course. Here is an example LPN resume you can see if it works for you.

The thing is there is so many nursing specialties and you have to customize your resume based on the job you are applying to and your unique credentials. What I am saying is you can't just use a general RN resume.
