Not sure of your area but here in Orlando we have 4C which, among other things, gives referrals for both registered and licensed daycare providers. Some provide their services out of their home. Even 24 hours. I would look for something like that.

I have used different childcare arrangements to cover scheduling needs, at times it has been frustrating and expensive and has required some degree of creativity...contact a childcare resource center or child care aware for the city/state you are looking to live/work in...licensed child care is regulated and may be safer(??)...for night shift and when the child(ren) are very young, home care centers/facilities have been most affordable and flexible, many are open 24 hours/7 days a week...for day shift, preschool age, home/family child care could work if organized and have more than one care provider(13-14 hours with an active child is taxing on even the most patient care provider)...I used a traditional center(with multiple caregivers and structured activities/schedule) for weekdays, 6am-4 or 5pm, then had a" sitter"(and had 2 backups available) pick the children up and "babysit"until I picked the children up...on weekends, used a sitter or family/home child care...there are also pick up & drop off childcare/sitting services...for school aged children, depending on the shift working, you may only need a sitter(and backups) to get the children to school(if you work nights) and/or from school(if you work days)...day camp and sitters for summer breaks...live in childcare(college student??elder??) in exchange for room/board if you have space in your home(and do background checks & get references)...finding the right childcare is an adventure and you do have options: )
