Having the second exam waived because you're an LPN depends on how long you've been an LPN -- EC will make that determination when they evaluate your transcripts/credits. As far as what to study, there are exam content guides available on EC's website that outline what you have to learn for each exam -- I suggest you download the exam content guide and check it out. A lot of people have used LPN texts, NCLEX review guides, and notes like those from studygroup101.com to be successful on these exams. Good luck!
Hi Tony in TN,
I live in TN also and I am studying for LS2. Only LS3 to go and then the big ones!! For Health safety, it was pretty easy. I used the study guides at studygroup101. you can get them on ebay or immediate downloads on their website. I have used these guides for every test so far and have passed them all with A's and B's. For LS1, I did use the med surg text book and the Saunders NCLEX review book. I am hoping to be done by Spring. You can get done by June if you set your mind to it and get it done!! Although I do hear the wait for the CPNE is getting longer and longer. Hope this helps!!

I'm an LPN in TN, I signed up for my first Excelsior test today, the one on Safety, what should I study to pass?? I scheduled it for Sept 22nd, not too much time to study for it, I just don't want to take forever to get this done. I'm also applying to regular nursing schools that start next summer in case I can't pass the CPNE.
It's my understanding that there are 8 tests, 1 of which as LPN's we don't have to take. There are 2 tests that you can take prior to actually signing up for the program, I believe Safety and Nursing Roles. I plan on taking and passing them prior to paying to sign up for Excelsiors program, that way I'll have 3 out of 8 tests done before officially starting the course.
What are the chances of being done by June 2012?? That's my goal anyway, If I can do that, I'll try to get into a BSN or MSN program and continue on.
Which me luck, the tests don't scare me half as much as the CPNE. I've worked with 2 RN's that were LPN's that got their RN through Excelsior, but one of them is very smart, I'm not sure I'm half as smart as that guy.
