I don't know how helpful it is to post here. I don't know if I should post this where nurses are already working so I can gather ideas... but I figure this post would be moved here eventually, so I'm just going to start here :).
I graduated my LPN program July 30th 2010. I am taking 6 months off to work and then plan on going back for my RN. I do not yet have my provisional license so I was searching for work as a CNA. I put in about 10 applications (at nursing homes) stating that I am a CNA looking for a job and that I will be able to work as an LPNA in about a month. Most of the places I applied had ads for CNA positions and LPN positions. I recieved one call back. I went to the interview and explained that I was a CNA and wanted to work as one. They told me that their facility (and I know this to be true of almost all facilities) didn't have any current LPNA positions available and that they come up randomly (when their current LPNA's obtain their official license, and there aren't neccessarily set dates for that). They feared I would work there as a CNA, be offered an LPNA position elsewhere and leave so I did not get the job. It sucked. I understand their fears but it is not true. Almost everyone I have spoken with said to just get a CNA job and then when LPNA becomes available to take the position even if it takes a month or two. Reasoning was because most places will not hire LPNA's. It made sense to me, but now I realize no where is going to hire me as a CNA when they know I have my provisional license in fear that I will leave if offered LPNA elsewhere.
So I guess I don't know what to do.
I was thinking of opening up the yellowpages and writing down every fax of every nursing home in my area and sending them my LPNA resume.
Any better suggestions/confirmation thats a good idea?
