LPN-RN in Wisconsin Great program!

I just graduated from one of the Wisconsin Technical College LPN-RN and it was a great experience!

I recieved my LPN training in the army (91-B infantry, then 91-C school) and worked as a cilivian LPN for several years.

The Wisconsin Technical College system's (there are 16 Tech Colleges in WI and all have ADN programs) nursing program is set up as a 1+1. That means that after the first year you can sit for the LPN NCLEX and after the second year you can sit for the RN NCLEX. That means that if you have an active LPN license you can walk right into the second year RN part of the prorgam. I only had to take a couple classes and had no problem doing them concurrent with the nursing classes and clinicals. I had to take:

Microbiology (by far the hardest class)

Oral and interpersonal communications (really, really easy) took on-line

Written communications (easy) took on-line

Developmental Phycology (very easy, had a great teacher)

I CLEPed intro to phyc and soc and tested out of chemistry (their chem class is only 2 units and available on line and you don't need it if you had chem in HS or score well on the natural sciences entry test). I was able to transfer 8 credits of A&P from my army LPN program!

The nursing classes and clincals were not difficult. I think 9 credits in the first semester and 9 in the second (including clinicals) so there is plenty of time to take other classes.

I went to Southwest Wisconsin Technical College http://www.swtc.edu/ and had a great experience there. They really like former military and the dean and nursing program counselor will bend over backwards to help you. No waiting list for LPNs either. I almost forgot, the whole program is very inexpensive. I paid about $3000 for the whole thing including books. The Wisconsin technical collge is Wisconsin's community college system. They are public, have NLN ac. Everyone of my classmates that I have talked to passed the NCLEX no problem (including me!).

All of the non nursing classes you need can be taken on line (and quite a few of the first year nursing classes too) at any Wi tech school and transfer no problem. You can see a list of all the on-line classes offered by the Wi tech college system at http://www.etechcollege.com.

I highly recomend them and no I do not work for them, I am just a very satisified customer.

Thank you very much for your post! I just found on Monday that I passed my NCLEX-PN Board exam and today I got admitted into the LPN-to-RN Progression program at Waukesha County Technical College in WI. So your post came at the right time. I don't know exactly when I'm starting, but the lady at admissions said there's a small chance I can start this fall. I wasn't expecting that. :-)

Well good luck! I don't know if you are able to attend another Tech school but if, for some reason you can't start this fall you could call around to the other schools and see if they have room for you. I am pretty sure that Southwest Tech would have room.

I called the school for the first time on August 15th to find out about getting in and attended my first class on August 26th.
