LPN to RN Transition Program (Broward College)

Published

Hi Everyone,

This site has been extremely helpful. However, I notice that there doesn't seem to be many threads discussing the transition program at BC. Is anyone currently enrolled or a graduate from it?

I'm sure much of the information is the same as the generic program, but I just had a few specific questions. I am currently taking CHM 1032 and plan on applying to the May '09 program. The advisor I spoke to told me to apply by the January '09 deadline, and then take Micro and the lab while I'm waiting for the program to begin.

So, does anyone have any information on the transition program itself? Is it offered at the same campuses as the generic? Is it harder to get into? Is it taught by the same professors?

Since it starts in May, do we get any time off in the summer? What is a typical day like? For instance, would I be able to work part-time?

Sorry for all the questions, but I just want to be prepared. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks! :)

12214ever,

If you are an LPN, you should apply to the LPN-RN transition program. According to the nursing assistant dean at BC, admission to the transition program is less competitive than the generic program.

The LPN's have to complete half the clinical hours as the generic students.

thanks for the quick reply, not sure i was clear. do u think i should apply to lpn program since my gpa is only 3.0 and bc accept's all lpn- rn transition. or tough it out and apply to rn program and see what happens.so excited to get things going i am going crazy thanks again

Why not apply to both and see what happens? If you get accepted to BC then you start there. If not, you've already got the ball rolling with the LPN program. You never know how competitive admissions will be from one semester to another. It all depends on the gpas of the others who apply.

Are you computing your gpa using only the prereqs?

Were you in HOSA in high school?

Yes, i computed using the req classes and no i do not have hosa i believe i would have 7 pts , the thing is lpn starts in march 09.

I would be submitting my app for generic over the summer for the jan 2010 program(so confusing)do you think i should speak to someone directly in the nursing dept. thanks your information is very appreciated!!!!

Why would you be submitting your generic app for Jan '10? If you're done with the pre-reqs, you can apply from March-May 15 for this August. As far as the transition program, I "think" you would have to wait until next year to apply since I "think" the deadline just passed. They only take LPN's once a year for the May program. I could be wrong.

Hi...where did you do you LPN..? was the entrance test hard..?

Hey guys, I would like to know about dual enrollment. I've applied to an LPN school that will start in June and was wondering if I could go ahead and take my pre-req's at BCC (May or Aug) while in the LPN program. I'm considering their transitional RN program. How will this affect my financial aid, or will it? Any feedback as always is much appreciated!

I am graduating with my LPN on April 9th and hoping to sit for my boards soon. I want to apply for the LPN-RN program but I've heard SO many negative things about BCC! Should I even waste my time? I am applying for South campus and all I hear is horrible things about all the teachers in every campus. I even heard that they are harder on LPN's because we are licenced. What do you think??
