you need to explore the distance learning forum. the college network is not a college they are a publishing company that charges thousands of dollars for materials. if you went through the college network you would still have to go through excelsior (ec) cause they are the degree granting institution. ec is a good option for many and you can get free content guides that tells you what is on the test. they have many resources to help you get your degree. they also advise against publishing companies like the college network... i am always amazed how many people think that the college network is a college ...they are not really upfront and they beat around the bush a lot...don't get scammed ,do your homework....

HI, I went through excelsior college and graduated in 2005 with
ADN. Currently getting ready to enroll in BSN. As the previous thread stated The college network is not a degree granting institution at all. They make it seem that they are afiliated with
Excelsior College but they aren't in any way, size shape or form. The college network is basically a publishing company. They do have mastered prepared people on their board that help write the guides ect. There are other companies that publish materials for people to use to help pass the exams at excelsior. Some that I know of are Istudysmart.com, Rue educational, chancellor. There was a forum on allnurses for distance education but I don't know if it is still around. YOU REALLY need to check with your board of nursing before starting EC, because some boards won't except them, or there is rules that you have to do extra clinical's ect.....
I personally liked TCN. All the material is there that you will need to pass the exams. It is broken down for you. A did use text books to make sure I totally understood the material. Also NCLEX books are good as well. A lot of good info. It gets you ready for the way that the boards will ask you questions. Some nurses like to get the "free" content guide from excelsior, buy the textbooks
that they list, and study that way. What ever work for you. The free content guide is merely an outline. In order to save yourself thousands of dollars, go to e-bay.... loaded with material for excelsior college, from TCN, chancellor, ect... Hope this helps,
G O O D L U C K to you... let me know if I can help you.....

I just started with the college network, and hopefully will finish up with Excelsior for my ADN, after which if I have any $$$$ left, I'd like to do the BSN. The only thing that did NOT impress me about TCN, is they told me what pre-reqs I needed, I paid my money lump sum, and then 2 months later suddenly I needed 2 more. They told me it can take an advisor up to 2 months to figure out exactly what you need, and I think that should be done before you pony up your hard earned cash. It was frustrating, cause it may or may not have affected my decision to sign up,as I like to have all of my facts and figures in front of me before I make such big decisions, but in looking at what it would cost per credit hour at my local college, I hope I am still getting off a bit cheaper, but not sure as we don't have anLPN to ADN program.
The books they have seem to be very good, you get all your info in a nutshell, it's a little different from classwork studying, as you are doing it all on your own, but that can be a positive too. I am so glad that I am not the only person that is doing this, I was feeling a little alone!
Did you check with your board of nursing related to getting your RN license? Not accepted in all states(for ADN) Also EC changes their curriculum at times too. Just fYi..... check out yahoo groups. they have groups for non-traditional learners and EC students. This is a great support network.. I didn'nt use this for my RN. Wish I would have. Check it out. Good luck to you. Happy Studying. Let me know if I can help you at all.
Take Care.....
