as an rn student who just got her lpn, what are the expectations when we do our clinical rotations? am i required to only do what any rn student would do, or am i allowed to do what is in the scope of my lpn licensure?

i know that the instructor is responsible for us as students, however, is my lpn license also on the line if a mistake occurs?

any advice and information would be appreciated.

my experience is that we function as students when we are in school even though i am a lvn. for example, we cannot sign consents or take verbal orders from docs, even though i go to work at my job as a lvn and do these things. the only difference i have found between the lvn students and the generic 2 yr students (we are now merged into one class) is that they are not allowed to push meds-even with the instructor. don't ask me why.

as far as your lvn license being in jeopardy if you make a mistake, i'm not sure. i would think if you did make a mistake while at clincals, then "no" you are operating under the license of your instructor. i could be wrong. hopefully, we won't have to find out the hard way.

hey there any lvns going or are in a rn program please remember to forget what they previously taught you.. kind of. as a lvn you follow and do. as a rn you are the team leader and make many decisions. start thinking like that. being responsible. think about the fact doctors will actually care about what you say about the assessment of patients and whats going on with them. also being a team leader as a rn mostboard questions will center around of course assessment and implimentation but also much on priority. always think about the order of things. really know what your learning and you will go far as a nurse and you will belong to two teams the one you run at the hospital or where you work and the second is the doctors team. hes the leader and you are part of the team who takes care of his patient when he is not there they rely on you .

be proud of your knowlege and be humble as well the second makes a better nurse.

go kick some you know.;)
