I'm in a similar situation. The Excelsior LPN to RN is a good option if it is recognized in your state - so check with your state board of nursing first. With Excelsior as far as I know there are no on site clinicals - you do your skills training on your own then there is a national skills exam - CPNE - that you must pass at the end in order to get your degree. Excelsior is not an option for me because my state no longer recognizes their program so I am looking at the ISU LPN to BSN-RN program instead. With ISU there are clinicals however you are responsible for setting them up yourself. Read the "distance learning" board for a lot more information about these programs.

I thought about doing ISU, but my problem is the delimma of finding my own clinical site. What state do you live in, and were you able to find a clinical site, how did you go about looking for one? I really think ISU should be the one doing all that work for you because you ARE paying for the tuition. That's my only program with ISU.
Here's a link to ISU's approved distance clinical sites. hope this helps

Hi,
I am thinking of LPN - do have all my prereqs for RN however but want to do LPN due to the feasbility of classes with my being a mom and having to work. Anyhow, reading a lot about how you can transition from LPN to RN without traditional college classes via online classes only (Excelsior College) - - is this really possible? Don't you have to still do clinicals? How does that work?
Thanks much!!
