LPN to RN??? Help!!

A little history about me first; I live in Ontario, 32 year old single mom with 2 daughters. I have applied to college for Sept 2009 as a career change - because of necessity. First of all, I will be applying for a student loan and this is a huge part of my decision. As well as not wanting to up root my daughters a year here and there for school.

I have applied to Pre Health Science and the LPN diploma program and need to choose my path. I would love some input from the users on this site.

After reading through everyone’s experiences, I am more confused than ever.

My view of the options:

A. take Pre Health Science (1 year)

- apply to the BscN - with no guarantee of acceptance - (4 years of school)

*total 5 years of school and 5 years of loans...urrrgggg

B. 2 years LPN program (employable after 2 years)

- 1 year of bridge to RN

- 2 years BscN program

** total 5 years of school...AND loans...

(Will this bridging program always be available??? There seems to be a lot of changes and closing of programs and so on...can I trust it will still be in place in 2-3 years, or where???)

The reason I am considering both options is because of my daughters. If anything happens (life in general) then I'm employable after 2 years. I will have a diploma and be able to work. In 5 years my oldest child will be entering college/university. That equals a whole lot of loans as I will not have the money to help out being that I just finished school.

The third option I have recently come across on this site; I'm not sure if I have interpreted correctly. It appears I can take my 2 years as an LPN then, 1 year in the States and receive an RN diploma (which is fine as I would love to move to the states)

Any advice before I start my journey would be greatly appreciated. I usually prefer a direct route...get things done so the direct route to RN is the most logical for me. However, because of needing to be practical with my life and daughters, I'm having troubles deciding.

you and I have similar issues. I for now I'm also confused as far and career path. I have all these nursing pre-req and would like to start a nursing program in the fall,but whose to say I'll get accepted. And pluse my with the nursing program pre-req's have a time limit. My pre-req's are almost 10years old. I need to decide on which career path to use my pre-req's before they go to wast.
