Hello, I am thinking about relocating to Austin and was just wondering what the pay for a LPN/LVN (new grad.) is in Austin/San Marcus area. I live in a rural area in NC, the starting pay here is $16.50 2nd shift, you can live fairly well with that pay. Also is there state income tax? (we do pay that here) I also believe that when I was there I did not pay tax on food items. Is that correct? (we pay 7.5%) Thanks

Most of the hospitals here in Austin are phasing out LVNs. My hospital does not hire them. You might try LTC facilities, not sure what the pay runs. You are right, we don't have a state income tax and no taxes on certain food products. With rental rates and housing prices here $16.50 is somewhat low. Depends on how you are use to living. Cost of living is high here.
San Marcos has only one hospital and you could not pay me to work there! We get in lots of cardiac transfers from there as they do not do interventions. Cost of living is lower there but it is a college town and that is pretty much what the population is, college students.
