I live in Hawaii, and have been trying to get into the "only" vocational program for LPN on the island for the past 2 years...I have all the pre-req's done, but keep getting rejected because the classes are so limited and the competition so strong..if you don't have a 4.0 GPA, your just pretty much out of luck..unfortunately, that's where I'm at...so naturally I am looking for other options...

 I have heard that there are schools that allow you to do the book work online and then attend campus classes for the hands-on portions once the book learning is done... is there such a thing... or am I just beating my head against a brick wall...I have tried to find infor on the internet but all I find are sights that require you to already have a license :crying2:

I really want to be an LPN...

I would become an RN...and this is advice from a veteran LPN. You just have more options these days. If you can swing it..go for the BSN...even better.

I know there are many schools for those that are already LPN's that can get their RN's with total class work from home on the internet. There are several ads on this website that will link you to those sites. Only one LPN program in all of Hawii? I don't think that is true. You should do a search as well for LPN schools from all the islands.

Actually..there are two universities and one community college on our island that over nursing program...however there is only one "vocational"...I could probably get into one of the universities, but the only offer 4 year program and I have to have two years of pre-req's...The two year programs at the community college are just as hard to get into as the vocational program...I'm not lazy or anything...in fact I love going to school...it's just that my husband will be retiring from the military in two years and I will have to work full time after that...I am already in my late 40's and working full time and going to school would be impossible for me...if I can get my LPN done thru vocational training I can work on the BSN part-time, maybe even an RN....if I had been smart enough to do this when I was "young" all of this would be done but I was young and...well...you know...it took me a long time to decide what I want to be "when I grow up"
