LPN job market in ATL

U.S.A. Georgia

Published

Hello all,

I am an LVN from the central coast of CA working in a SNF/LTC and was looking for advice on the job market in GA, specifically, the Atlanta area. I noticed there are some threads similar to this, although they are all several years old and I wanted to get a feel for the present time. I won't move there without a job and I still need to endorse my CA license to GA so it won't be for several months at least.

While I realize this isn't likely, are there any hospitals around the area, be they rural or urban, that still utilize LPNs? I know acute care jobs are very difficult to come by as an LPN, but I'm trying to expand my scope of experiences. If not, any decent SNF/LTC facilities that are worth looking into? Heck, even dialysis sounds interesting! Any help or suggestions are much appreciated.

Hi LVNbayarea,

I'm not a LPN yet so I can't really speak to the current job market. I'm hoping to start PN school in January and asked a program advisor at my school about job placement. She specifically mentioned that Newton Medical Center in Covington (east of Atlanta) hires LPNs. It seems like the majority of the positions are in long-term care, home health, hospice, and clinics though.

Been scanning the threads as well for a current feel for the LPN market down in Atlanta area,GA. I too am also thinking of making the great trek from up north (PA/NJ) to ATL,GA

due to the pleasant housing market and reasonable cost of living. I am aware that I might have to take a pay cut but can anybody share what's the pay scale of LPNs in LTC/SNF and private duty Peds Homecare?

Thanks in advance

My advice is this: have your Ga license in place and if possible, live in Ga before applying. There are a lot of nurses looking for jobs and honestly, the employer I'm with now will not even look at a candidate if they don't live in the area.

As far as hospitals - most I know don't hire LPN's..LTC,home health, hospice, dialysis, MD offices and the VA does - you can usually call the HR dept at a hospital or look on their web site to see.

Wages are going to be less than what you are used to - wages for nurses in Ga are notoriously low anyway so just keep that in mind. I know a few LPN's - they make -depending on where they work from $10/hr and up. The most I know one makes is $19 - that isn't to say you wouldn't make more - I'm sure it depends on experience etc.
