It depends on where you work. The areas of employment for LPNs in Nashville is dwindling. Most hospitals no longer hire LPNs. Hospitals And clinics pay the least (about $15). LTC on average pay $17. Home health pays 18-20 but there are no benefits with home health and you might go for a period without a case. This doesn't include night and weekend differential that can add another $1-3.
In my opinion, if you have the option of getting your RN now go ahead and get it. Getting your LPN is just a stepping stone.

From my personal experience, I have noticed that most employers are looking for experienced LPN's in the current job market, which squeezes out the new grads, even the LTC's are not wanting newbies. I have been trying to return to LPN after a long hiatus from the field and have been taking a refresher course that requires a clinical and I cant even get a facility willing to allow me to come in for free!!!!! I would say there are more jobs out there for RN's and agree if you can and have the time to get the degree, DO IT!! You will make more money as well as have plenty of job opportunities. Best of Luck :)
