Below is the title of our pharmocalogy math text book used in my program which is available at amazon.com (used are available). A geat resource and made easy in terms of understanding dimensional analysis, which is the cornerstone of pharmacology. I strongly urge you obtain it if you have the financial means. As I stated above, used copies are available. Well worth the investment in my opinion. Hope this helps

I am an "old school" LPN from 1974! I have had a long history of hospital, nursing home, peds clinics, 16 years working in the clinic at a men's prison in New Mexico! If you have never tried correctional nursing,,try it , you might be surprised. This was the best job I ever had. I learned so much and got to do sooo much. I never felt my life was in danger. It was not what I expected at all! The pay was wonderful,,no bedpans,,no making beds,,no baths,,it was great.
Over the years I changed over to elderly care. I needed to be able to run to emergencies in the prison system and arthritis caught up with me, I love the residents, so I love the job.
Now I took off 2 years to take care of my own father. I am ready to return to prn staffing for one of the agencies now. They want me to take a med comp exam, which I understand. I haven't actually worked out a med problem for a dosage in years!! It just isn't used much where I was working. I guess hospitals still use dosage calculations.
I am scared that this old lady can't pass the darn test. I am going to work for maxim or Interim. Both are offering me a nice hourly wage to work giving meds at the correctional facility.
Anyone know where I can go to grab a book or test to study? I don't want to cheat,,,just make sure I am up on dosages and
the calculations. If this is ok,,you can email me at kathy at [email protected]. If you want to know more about correctional nursing I would be happy to answer any questions.
Thank you all
Kathy
