lpn float nurse dilemma/confusion

Nurses LPN/LVN

Published

Hello there! I am new to the nursing field, I am a newly licensed practical nurse. I just accepted my first job as an office nurse floater. Well I find out today that I am being trained by a CNA float nurse. I was under the impression that the position is an LPN position. Seems I was wrong and deceived about the job description. So apparently the CNA float makes 14.75/hr and has been in that position for 2 years. I just started as an LPN and I make 11.70/hr. This to me does not seem reasonable. I feel like I took a job I was overqualified for and here is the kicker, I am also expected to do lpn duties, like refilling meds, ekgs, injections. But I make less, I am so confused! Am I in the wrong on this is or is this normal protocol? I feel like I do more work but with the lesser pay. After all I did go through 2 years of nursing school and busted my hump to make a career out of it. Should I rethink this position? Just looking for some feedback from nurses with experience with this. Thank you for all and any feedback.

11.70 an hour? That's kind of a slap in the face. I wouldn't accept anything less then 16 in my area and 16 is low balling it for me.

Where do you live? Have you researched how much LPNs make? I would be upset also.

I would research what LPN's make in your area. If you are underpaid then I would look for another job. It sounds like they want their cake and eat it too.

Well apparently I just need to find another job. The float CNA that I will be helping said to me Oh you must still live at home with your mother because she asked if I was married, I told her I had a BF of three years and she said that dont mean nothing. What a ****** I am 34 years old and am a very friendly person, I talk to everyone, I am a team player, I am guessing she feels threatened by me because I am 20 years younger. She also told a patient that the younger folks are getting all the jobs and the company is giving the older ones the boot. She is unprofessional and very crude and obnoxious, speaking about her bowel habits to the patients. Hello?!? I am an LPN and I worked my ass off to get this far, I have lived on my own with no help since I was 17 years old! I don't know if I should tell the Nurse manager or just ignore her and kill with kindness or just bite her head off, I can feel it coming, I know I am going to get really hateful and blow my top if she dont stop belittling me. Oh what to do??

Wow!! That is not cool in the least. Yeah it think it is time to high tail it out of there. Can you apply at nursing homes? They seem to pay well for LPNs.

And I also would avoid any job paying you so low.
