Nurses LPN/LVN

Published

So I just got hired at an ent office that wanted to sign me up for allergy testing training where I would learn to mix my own serums, administer muli prick skin test etc. The manager unfortunately didn't get my application for the program out in time and they are considering having the former nurse train me instead of going to the course, does this seem safe as far as my license is concerned?

That's how I was trained in my ENT allergy office--the other nurse and MD trained me. I was eventually sent to the AAOA Basic Allergy Course (American Academy of Otolaryngolic Allergy) and it was the same way I'd been trained. If in doubt, ask the previous nurse and ask the MD. Ask your manager, or go directly, about a membership for the AAOA. They have a great website and information, and get to know the reps for the labs (ALK, Allergen, etc.). There is a lot of information and details, but take good notes. The previous allergy nurse may have a great record system and charting on the computer in addition to the facility records. Good luck!!!

This is how I was trained... but that was back in 1994. The other nurse had been there 20+ years and continued to work with me.
