Lower division requirements - how seriously do they look?

Published

For the college I am looking at, they take 17 requirements and calculate the GPA to take you. Ho seriously would they look at that? My concern is, say I have a few Bs and a C and the rest are As. Would they look down on that or...?

At my school there were no requirements for taking your prereqs for nursing, like anatomy/physiology/micro/fundamentals. You could just sign up and register like any other class. There was a requirement for being a "pre-nursing" major, but I have no idea what it was because I just went straight to nursing for my second degree and didn't declare a major while I was doing my pre-reqs. They looked at your GPA for induction to the upper division, because there were no other divisions of the program. I don't know if your school works the same way, but if it does, mostly Bs and Cs in your random classes is okay but if you have Bs and Cs in all of your nursing school prereqs you may have a problem. They weight those higher than random non-science classes, so try to get mostly As in the prereqs if you can.

It sounds like your schools works off a point system. So you get 4 points for A's 3 for B's and 2 for C's (or something similar). If that is the case you need to get so many points in order to be considered. I would say the will look at the VERY seriously, it will probably be the bulk of how they determine if you are a good candidate. They may also look at healthcare experience, previous degree, maybe an essay. I had 2 B's the first year I applied and full points for healthcare, having a bachelors degree, and a good essay, and still didn't get in until I retook those classes. I am from Oregon I dont know where you are at they may also do a TEAS test there which might make up for B's in the requirements.
