Hi Everyone- I'm going to be applying "again" to LCC for a Fall 18 start. Ideally, I would like to get into their RN program but, if that doesn't work out I have been looking at Sumner's LPN or RN program's as an alternative.
I was also curious for those that are doing the LPN to RN program at Lower Columbia, what school did you get your LPN at and did you feel prepared? At this point, if I don't make it into the Fall 18 start at LCC, I will more than likely end up going to Sumner. Since the cost is significantly more that LCC I'm not sure if I should do the LPN then bridge or just bite the bullet and get it done. The one thing I like about the LPN to RN bridge at LCC is that I would have more options of where I can do my BSN.
So far, I haven't found anyone that has been in the Sumner LPN or RN program in Portland recently and would really like to hear from some people that have gone to be able to get their thoughts on the education they received.
Thank you!!

I am in my second term of the RN program at Sumner. I finished all my nursing prerequisites at Lower Columbia College. I applied to LCC and Sumner at the same time for Fall 2017. I was rejected by LCC and accepted into Sumner. The nice thing is that although Sumner's program has the prerequisites included, they will accept around 30 transfer credits and you will not have to take those classes. I transferred in ENG 101, ENG 102, BIO 241, BIO 242, PSYC 100, and PSYC 200.
At Sumner, I feel like things are a bit disorganized, but they are my first and only experience with a nursing program, so this could be a common problem. I really do feel as though I am learning a lot about nursing and the school is very determined to make sure that every student is successful. It's a small school, so if an issue ever does come up, you can speak up about it and it will be dealt with. I see the school's president almost every day doing all sorts of odds and ends throughout the school.
I have friends that are a couple terms ahead of me in the RN program at Sumner, and they all say that it's really nice once we get all the pharmacology and medical terminology classes out of the way after the first couple terms.
