Lower back pain and surviving clinical

Published

Hello all, I am in my second semester of nursing school. Our first clinical of the semester is on Monday and I am severely stressed out about back pain.

I am very overweight and have been having a horrible tightening in my lower back that eventually starts to feel tingly. It occurs when standing still and when walking. I am really worried about the back pain during clinical while working with my patient and even on the walk to the hospital as we have to walk a good distance to even get there.  I have been working out at a very beginner level to start losing weight. However, I have to take frequent breaks bc of the back pain. The only thing that I've found to help it is sitting or laying down. Does anyone have any advice to help with the back pain to survive clinical? Last semester I feel like it affected my work ethic and really don't want to look lazy to my instructors and hospital staff as they could be potential employers. I'm hoping that eventually, sooner than later I pray, the working out will build muscle and will help but until then I need any advice I can get LOL! Thank you all.
