Low undergrad GPA but high High school GPA

Hello,

I'm soon to graduate from UBC with a BSc. Since my undergraduate GPA is not very high, I was hoping to apply to some 4 year programs in Canada using my high school marks.

Does anyone know of any institutions (e.g. universities, colleges, technical institutes) that would only look at high school marks? My high school average for math, chem, biol, and engl is at about 89%. Thanks for your help!

Here in Ontario I know they look at ALLL your academic history.. before I enterned the BScN program I wrote the school a letter explaining my poor marks in the past, I then did some upgrading and did Amazing therefore getting accepted into my a highly oversubscribed program

(and if you dont submit all your transcripts your file will show incomplete happened to a couple friends of mine)

I would submit your transcripts along with a letter explaining your poor undergrad marks.

And they do understand many things happen in life and its not always as planned so getting 80s and 90s doesnt always happen, it doesnt mean the person has less potential.

Good Luck :nurse:

and also you should contact the school you are interested in on specific admission procedures for that school.

Thanks for the reply!

Did you do upgrading for the pre-requisite courses only? Or just for the purpose of improving your GPA?

I did upgrading for Univerity Pre requisites --I was in Bio, math, Communications and I think thats it, it was at the college level and then the University accepted those marks for the BScN program

Which university did you apply to?

I think I'm on the same boat as well... coming out w/ a BSc, low GPA, and hoping to get into 4-yr nursing program. Most program I'll be applying seem to look at your highest achieving education level first, unless you're missing a prerequisite that came be found in your high school course. Even so, they don't average in your high school mark. I remember one school stating somethin along the line that your admission average will based on the type and number of credits you have. Say, if you only have high school credits, then your admission average will be based on that. If you have 30 credits, then they take both into consideration. But if you have more than that, then the university will look only at your university GPA as admission average. Not really helping much I suppose...

Sometimes i can't help but to wonder whether it would be harder to compete with high school students for admission into 4-yr programs or with older and more mature applicants for 2-yr programs. High school students tend to have higher average and older and mature appliants tend to have more experiences...

If you're near Durham College in Oshawa, they offer university preparation courses for those who want to upgrade their GPA. I believe other Universities accept this program offered through Durham but you would have to first check with Durham or other institutions beforehand.
